What is Spinal Manipulation?

What is Spinal Manipulation?

If you try chiropractic care for back pain, spinal manipulation will make up a large part of your treatment plan. Learn what spinal manipulation is and how it relieves back pain naturally.

spinal manipulation

Spinal manipulation is not one technique, but several. Our Atlanta chiropractor makes hands-on adjustments as well as instrument-aided adjustments. Hands-on adjustments are a classic way to relieve inflammation and pain by releasing pressure on trapped nerves. The activator tool allows us to make precise adjustments to the spine, adjusting only the area where there is interference.

Spinal Manipulation Technique

We also use the flexion distraction method and the Thompson Drop technique, both of which use special tables. In the former method, we use traction to pull a compressed spine back to its proper length and relieve low back pain. In the latter, we use a drop table to target joint misalignment and increase the range of motion.

No matter which method we use, you'll feel a slight shift or low pressure within the spine, but adjustments are not painful. As adjustments continue, your symptoms will decrease and you'll enjoy more mobility and flexibility.

How Spinal Manipulation Treats Low Back Pain

As you undergo chiropractic care for back pain, spinal manipulation will restore the integrity of your spine by removing blockages, restoring length, and restoring alignment. Adjustments release trapped nerves and reduce inflammation in pulled muscles, so pain symptoms decrease.

As a result of spinal manipulation, your nervous system will be able to naturally manage pain and inflammation in the body since there are no interferences to prevent it from controlling your pain.

Since all of this is done naturally, you will never take medication for pain control when you work with our chiropractor in Atlanta.
