Man at a chiropractic office Your Medical History

First, our chiropractor needs to know more about your chronic pain in order to ensure that you are receiving the right care. We’ll need you to fill out your personal history on a New Patient Health History Form. You should be ready to discuss your personal and family medical history, which can provide insight into why you are experiencing chronic pain now. You should also notify our chiropractor of any medications you are taking and any injuries or conditions you currently have.

Physical Evaluation of Chronic Pain

After collecting information on your personal and family medical history, our chiropractor will physically examine your spine and other areas where pain occurs. This examination helps our chiropractor determine what is causing your symptoms and how extensive the pain is. In some cases, X-rays need to be done in order to provide detailed images of the affected area. When our chiropractor is done with the physical exam, you can expect to discuss a treatment plan.

Spinal Adjustments and a Comprehensive Treatment Plan

You might have your first spinal adjustment done when you come in for your first visit. Our chiropractor will typically have you lie flat during your adjustment. Keep in mind that these adjustments are done to correct misaligned discs in your spine that could be contributing to your chronic pain. Your adjustment should provide you with some relief from your symptoms. Our chiropractor will discuss when you should return for another spinal adjustment and how often you should have them done.

Aside from manual adjustments, our chiropractor offers various techniques such as the activator method, Gonstead technique, flexion distraction method, and motion palpation. Depending on your condition, we will also discuss complimentary treatment options such as massage, traction or decompression, or therapeutic exercises.
