Common Questions About "Text Neck"
Are you experiencing chronic neck pain? The specialists at Century Center Chiropractor would love to help you. Below are some common questions about neck pain associated with text neck.
What Causes Text Neck?
Text neck is caused by extended use of cell phones, texting, browsing, and anything else that holds your attention for long hours. Most people end up hunched forward due to being too focused on their phone than noticing the poor posture that they are developing. Your shoulders become rounded and your head drops forward, causing the poor posture and neck pain that results.
How Can I Prevent Text Neck?
Improving your posture while texting can prevent you from getting text neck. If you are going to type on your phone for long periods of time, use an external keyboard. Keep your shoulders back and chest out while texting. Place a pillow on your forearms to lessen tension on your neck. Tuck your chin in your chest instead of dropping your head forward. Keep your arms in front of your eyes while texting to avoid looking down at your screen.
What Are Stretches I Can Do to Prevent Text Neck?
There are several stretches you can do to prevent text neck. Squeeze a stress ball for 30 seconds in each hand. Stretch your hands by having them in a fist, then stretching out your fingers as far as they will go, and then bring your hand into a fist again. Do this for 10 stretches for each hand. Use a rubber band on your fingers to add resistance. Stretch your chest by standing straight with your arms next to you. Move your forearms until your thumbs point behind you.
